Privacy

Ask AI is local-first and bring-your-own-key. In short: your keys and history stay on your device, and your page content is only ever sent to the AI provider you choose, only when you ask.

Bring-your-own-key

Ask AI has no hosted backend. You supply your own OpenAI or OpenRouter API key, and requests go directly from your browser to the provider you choose.

Where your data lives

Your API keys are stored locally in the browser's extension storage. Chat history is saved locally on your device when history is enabled, with a configurable retention limit.

When page content is sent

Page content is sent to your selected AI provider only when you ask a question or run a quick action. Nothing is transmitted in the background.

Your controls

You can disable history entirely, exclude specific sites from page context and history, and choose which providers and models are used.

What we collect

Ask AI does not run analytics servers and does not collect or sell your data. The only network requests are the AI calls you initiate, sent to the provider whose key you configured.
